Safety
Commercial Drone Services (CDS) take safety very seriously, and will not compromise or take shortcuts in this area.
From a company-wide perspective;
-
CDS’s Operations Manual and all associated operating procedures are reviewed on a regular basis by Aviassist, to ensure that all procedures are up-to-date, relevant, and in use.
-
Drone and battery scheduled maintenance intervals are automatically alerted to CDS by the use of AirData UAV’s automated alerts, see Maintenance
-
Drone maintenance and repairs are only carried out by authorised representatives of the manufacturer. In Melbourne (and most other cities around Australia), that is D1 Store.
From the Chief Remote Pilot’s perspective;
-
I have completed Aviassist’s formal training course in SORA (Specific Operational Risk Assessment), see Background: Founder & Chief Remote Pilot.
-
I am currently studying for my CASA IREX (Instrument Rating EXam), see Background: Founder & Chief Remote Pilot
-
I have completed well over 300 jobs (all at different locations) for Spirit Telecom, all on customer rooftops, with zero safety issues. See Spirit Telecom’s case study
-
I have numerous safety permits for Working at Heights, on construction sites, with boom lifts etc, see “Background: Founder and Chief Remote Pilot”
-
I am double-vaccinated against COVID-19
From an equipment perspective;
-
The Matrice 300 drone features some innovative new safety features, such as the ability to fly on only 3 motors, if one of the 4 motors fails! It also features dual obstacle avoidance sensors in all 6 directions, multiple redundancy features, and DJI AirSense. AirSense uses an ADS-B receiver to enhance airspace safety by providing the drone operator with real-time information about aeroplanes and helicopters, within a 20+ km radius.
